When surfing the web for either information or a certain product or service, do you:
- read the stuff on the page you land on or
- read the “About Me” page (or any iteration of the “About” page) or
- read the stuff in the sidebars?
I can only speak for myself but the “About” page falls pretty far down on the list.
The Really Important Stuff
If Content is King and Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is Queen perhaps knowing about the author of a particular blog or provider of a particular service is the Prince. Who knows?
This question started forming in my mind after reading a blog post on Letters from Dan by Internet Marketing honcho, Dan Morris. It seems that when Dan started his blog it was one thing and has since morphed into something a little different. All the while, his “About Our Blog” page has remained pretty static. So, according to Dan, it needs to change.
I’m not so sure.
Dan’s “About” page looks pretty interesting but, more to the point, if the content on the main part of his blog is meaty enough will anyone care if the “About” page is a bit on the generic side. Will they even look?
In any case, it’s not “About Me” it’s about Dan’s blog post: Local Business Marketing: It’s not all me

You can also leave a comment here to let me know what you think about the “About” page (my link is at the tippy top of this page)
Hey Ken, I’m not sure how I missed this. Right prior to that post I’d learned that the “About Me” section of a site is the 2nd most viewed page in general.
I don’t visit that page on other people’s too often but felt I ought to spend some time on it if someone’s going to actually read it.
