The other day I was visiting a used book warehouse. That’s right. Warehouse. My local Rotary club collects book donations and send a ton of books overseas and to some domestic organizations. In order to support this effort, they sell a lot of books about 4 times a year. The place is huge. The variety of books is huge.
Here’s my problem. I never know what to pick out.
Part of me says, “Go ahead and get the mindless, escapist reading – the mystery, the humor books.” Yet, the other part of me – the part that wants to make a couple of bucks or become self actualized – says, “No, get the business books or the personal development books.”
I vacillate between picking up a biography or a straight novel or maybe an author I might have heard about but never read. It’s a terrible dilemma. The other part of this is the fact that unless a book is really well written and interesting, I put it down after about 50 to 75 pages. If it’s the type of book where I get a little sleepy after 4 pages I go back to reading blogs and playing on Facebook or Twitter.
What do you guys think? How do you do with picking out books to read? What do you read?
